Top 5 reasons to visit the spa during Promenade

The East Village’s annual holiday kick-off is THIS FRIDAY, November 17th. Thanksgiving is crazy early this year so we’ll get an additional week of holiday festivities before Christmas. As always we plan fun events for the Promenade and encourage you to stop up and say hello! Here are our top 5 reasons to stop up this year!

  1. TREATS! Our friend Anne at Shade Tree Bakery is creating gingerbread cake parfait cups for us. Be one of the first up to make sure you get one. She’s a genius with baked goods.
  2. DRINKS! I’ll be making my spiced cranberry hot toddies. Cranberry, cinnamon, cloves, orange, and a splash of Jameson to warm your body and spirit.
  3. BLENDS! Kelly and Molly will help you craft perfectly blended gifts at our aromatherapy blending bar so you can give a homemade gift that is customized for everyone on your list. Enjoy 20% off of all custom blended lotions, body scrubs, body mists, bath salts, and bubble baths.
  4. MENU UNVEILING: We’ll debut our December and January seasonal menu at the event…need a hint? The menu pairs perfectly with our treats for the evening.
  5. GIFT CARD SALE! As Always, we’ll be kicking off our annual gift card sale on Friday. For every $100 in gift cards purchased in the spa (excludes online) you’ll get a FREE $20 voucher good for regularly priced services in 2018. The sale goes through 12/23, but it is best to shop early to avoid the lines.

P.S. A secret 6th reason? We have restrooms our customers can use between all of the Promenade stops for holiday cheer and merriment. A perk of being part of the East Village Spa family!

Katie’s Pick

Derma E Age Defying Day Cream with SPF 15

Katie loves that this moisturizer is very hydrating and now that she’s outside more, she likes the light SPF protection too.

Justin’s Pick

Tiger Balm Products

Justin likes that this warming product really works!  He uses the salve during Sports Massages and uses it personally for his post workout pain.  He also likes how easy the patches are to use.

Cassie’s Pick

Pure Inventions Drink Mixes

Cassie likes this calorie-free alternative to high sugar cocktails and mixers for a light summer drink.  Mix it with sparkling water and serve over ice or try a dropper full of Blueberry (her favorite!) in a glass of champagne for a fun patio cocktail.  One of our clients said it works great with her soda stream!

Tiffany’s Pick

Farmhouse Fresh Agave Nectar

Tiffany loves this light hydrating oil.  It is perfect for moisturizing in the summer, right after the shower.  She picked it for the subtle, sweet fragrance of the Agave Nectar.

Fun ways to spend Valentine’s Day that are not couple’s massages

We love seeing couple’s for Valentine’s Day, but our schedule fills up fast (we can only do about 8-10 couple’s massages on Valentine’s Day and about 8 on the 15th so understandably, those spots go fast!)  We do keep a waiting list for these openings so feel free to call us to add your name to the list!

We do encourage you to think outside the couple’s massage room this Valentine’s Day!  First, a gift card to the spa is a good gift your sweetheart can enjoy anytime.  You can get a gift card in the spa and we’ll gift wrap it with organic chocolates.

Now that you have your gift card in hand, I’ve got some great ideas of how you can present your spa gift card to your sweetheart!

1. Jasper Winery’s Wine, Beer, and Cupcakes Flight on Saturday February 15th:  Can you get any better than wine, beer, and sweet treats all in one gorgeous location?  Click here for event details.  You can also call Jasper Winery for more information on scheduling a chocolate and wine or cheese and wine pairing.  Sit in front of their crackling fireplace and present your sweetie with their spa gift card while you sip delicious locally crafted drinks.

2. Dinner at HOQ on February 14th:  One of our favorite East Village Neighbors, HOQ Restaurant features farm fresh local meat and produce.  They are great for meat eaters, vegetarians, and people with gluten sensitivities.  Check out their Valentine’s Day menu here and call ahead for reservations!

3. Laugh with your love at Comedy Xperiment’s Valentine’s Day Show at the Stoner Theater.  Tickets are just $10! Click here for info.

4.  Make reservations for the “Not Valentine’s” 6 course dinner at Tacopocalypse.  There are great options for vegan and vegetarians on their prix fixe menu too! Advanced tickets required, purchase yours here.

5.  Catch a movie at Fleur Cinema, then take your movie stubs across the parking lot to Mezzodi’s for 2 for one drinks or appetizers!  Surprise your date with a spa gift card while you dish about the movie you just saw!

6.  Enjoy sophisticated dining at BOS at the Renaissance Savory hotel or a cocktail at CODA lounge.  Click here for the valentine’s menu.

We hope this inspires some Valentine’s Day creativity and we look forward to helping you pick the perfect gift to go along with your fun Valentine’s Weekend plans!

Meet the Male Spa-Goer

The International Spa Association (ISPA) did a study in 2013 to find out how many men use spa services and their preferred services.  At East Village Spa, many of our guests are men and our spa is gender-neutral in decor and in our services, for example, a man and woman would equally benefit from or enjoy any of our treatments (okay, save for the pregnancy massage!)

Some of the most interesting statistics from ISPA’s study:

47% of spa-goers are men

28% of men have visited a spa within the past 12 months.  The typical male spa-goer is most likely to be 25-44 years old.

In the Southwest and California, a much higher than average percentage of men (40%) have visited spas in the last year.

The most popular services that men use in spas are Massage (83%), Pedicures (37%), Manicures (33%), and Facials (31%).  At our spa, the most popular treatments for men are our massage therapies, with the type of massage pretty evenly split between stress-reduction treatments and deep tissue/sports therapies.

At East Village Spa, we are working to combat the stereotype that men don’t go to spas because they do!  Stress, pain, skin and nail concerns are not unique to women, we hope that events like our Men’s Night will help to let men know that spa therapies are a great way to reduce stress, relieve pain, and keep working and doing the activities that they love!
